  Clean air is vital to all combustion processes. The prime function of an inlet filter system is to protect the gas turbine from pollutants in the air, as particles entering can cause costly damages like erosion, corrosion and fouling. Erosion is a permanent degradation, mainly caused by coarse particles,

  while corrosion is caused by salt in combination with sulphur, and high temperatures. Smaller particles cause fouling of turbine blades, and thus affecting performance negatively. A secondary effect is an increase in temperatures, as heat transfer effectiveness is reduced, and ultimately the life of the hot section. Effective capture of particulate and airborne salt is therefore of vital importance for long and efficient operation. If not removed by the inlet system, particles will force operators to more frequently water wash the compressor, either by unnecessary on-line washing or during costly shut downs.

  It is also important to understand the complexity of differentiating air filters. Most air filters remain in a system for months or even years. During this time, the filter will experience several environmental variations like changes in temperature, humidity, airflow velocity and particle load. To prevent this, and make sure our filters withstand the severe real life conditions once in operation
